Quilting Cottons, Notions, Patterns and Books - Longarm Quilting - Quilt Classes
Quilting Cottons, Notions, Patterns and Books - Longarm Quilting - Quilt Classes
We can’t have a quilt show without your quilts! No rules here, we just want to show your quilts and air them out for you. Folks love to see quilts that other folks make, and they want to see yours! Please bring them to the shop by Friday, September 6. We can’t wait to see them all!
Quilts made by local quilters will be displayed up and down the Downtown Orfordville streets, and in Purdy Park. So fun to see!
At the show in 2023, folks picked up a Challenge Quilt packet with a 1/2 yard of fabric in it. They've made amazing quilts including the 1/2 yard, and after they're shown, they'll be donated to Green and Rock County Foster Care agencies and Project 16:49. Visit us just to see these quilts! There are over 70!
Each year our shop has a Mystery Quilt Club from January to May. All of the completed Mystery Quilts will be shown together for a great display.
We've selected a group of 5 quilters that we think are awesome. You can sit and ask them any quilting and sewing questions that you have. There is so much to learn from each other!
The Dairyland Quilts of Valor Chapter will award Quilts of Valor to Veterans at 11:00am in Purdy Park.
Quilts will be presented to folks chosen from the Orfordville Community by the Orfordville Quilts of Gratitude group at 11:00am in Purdy Park.
We will have a blessing of the Challenge Quilts before they are on their way to new homes at 12:00pm. We would love for all Challenge Quilters to be present for a photo with the quilts.
Challenge Quilt packets will be available to pick up at the shop anytime during the quilt show. Fabric will be included to get the design process started. We have a fabulous group of long arm quilters that have done the quilting for no charge and have offered to do the same in 2025. You'll bring your completed top back to us and we'll get it finished! Then we'll donate it in your name to local Assisted Living Homes in our community.
We've chosen a local quilter to show quilts that she has made at 12:45 on The Patio. So many beautiful quilts to see!
We have two vendors that are special to us that will be on The Patio next to the shop.
Ron and Julie Wanless of Sugar River Quilting will be here with their beautiful quilt furniture and wooden quilt blocks. Check them out on Facebook at Sugar River Quilting.
And our friends Jeanne and Karen will be here selling finished quilts! They use theme and color to make fabulous quilts and bags for you or to give as gifts. Be sure to visit them all!
Our friends from Orfordville Lutheran Church have made a wonderful quilt and will have raffle tickets for sale to win it! The folks at OLC use the quilt raffle as a fundraiser. This is the generous congregation that allows the Chicks to use their facility for our classes. They are so good to us. Be sure and buy some tickets! Let's show them our support!
We'll have our Mystery Quilt, Class and Club Schedule available on show day as well. The information will also be posted to this website soon.
Meeting on the last Saturday of each month in 2024 at 10:00am, Orfordville Lutheran Church.
Vintage and Antique quilts are so admired and collected. This club will re-make our own versions of them. Currently we're working on a Drunkard's Path quilt! A challenge for most of us! The history of the block and the quilt will be shared on each quilt selected. This will be a "Sew Day" format, as we each work on our own quilt in our own time.
There will be no fee for this club.
Meeting the first Saturday of each month til December, 10:00am, Orfordville Lutheran Church.
This club will feature monthly blocks designed by our friend Heather Briggs of My Sew Quilty Life. Each block corresponds to a month of the year and features a cute spool!
We will have a sew day once each month to introduce the block and begin working on it - or catch up from the previous blocks. Each block uses the stitch and flip technique - no applique or foundation piecing.
Fee is $10.00 per month or $110.00 per year, with monthly discount offers and prizes included.
Each block can be made with scraps, and 4.25 yards of light colored background fabric - includes fabric for setting the quilt and a border.

The Chicks are longarm quilters that enjoy all aspects of quilting - both edge to edge and custom designs. Together they share many years of sewing and quilting experience, and have been longarm quilting professionally on a Gammill Statler Stitcher named Mrs. McDonald since 2013.
We offer longarm quilting services - both all over designs and custom quilting. We also quilt T Shirt Quilts. Prices vary as to the size of your quilt, the density of the design, and customization. Bring your quilt top in, we'll look it over and visit with you about it, then come up with a perfect quilt design to make your work of art an amazing finished quilt.
You can choose from many fabrics that blend perfectly with fabrics that you may already have to complete your project! Prints, Solids, Batiks, Panels, Fat Quarters, and Quilt Kits. There are seasonal collections by well known designers. New fabrics are arriving each month - so be sure to check in often!
Quilters either love binding a quilt, or don't love binding a quilt. If you don't love it, we can do it for you! We'll add a machine sewn or hand sewn binding, which ever you prefer.
The Pattern series, A-OK 5 Yard Quilts use 5 - 1 yard cuts of fabric. We've done the work for you, and have 5 co-ordinating fabrics put together. For $65.00, a pattern is included with 5 yards of fabric, and you get to choose it!
We've made all of the quilts in the series, and they are displayed throughout our shop. Each pattern is written simply and easy to follow, and sews up quickly. A generous throw size when finished, they are perfect for gifts!
Tops should be pressed and extra threads removed from the front and the back. We have many thread colors to use, and can help you choose the right color to showcase your piece work. There are so many patterns that are available to us, and we can talk with you to choose the perfect one if you like. If we don't have one that you're thinking of, we can most likely get it!
Backing fabrics should be at least 5 inches larger on all sides of the top to allow us to load the quilt sandwich on our machine. The back should have all seams pressed flat. If you don't yet have a backing, we can make one for you using a co-ordinating fabric that we sell in our shop.
You are most welcome to bring a batting of your choice for your quilt. We have Pellon 80% cotton / 20% poly batting for purchase also. We also are able to get specialty battings for you - wool, bamboo, silk, 100% poly, and others. Sometimes, a quilt warrants a specialty batting to get the look that is perfect for your finished quilt.
A local chapter, this growing group makes quilts for veterans in the Rock County Community. Quilts are made and awarded in a moving ceremony to veterans by nomination. Red, White, Blue, or Patriotic fabrics and financial gifts can be donated and are collected in our quilt shop. Always accepting new members, more information is available by contacting co-ordinator Sharon Clark at skayclark1951@gmail.com. See qovf.org for more information on the national organization.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit us!
If you can't make it to us during business hours, give us a call.
We're often in the shop in the evenings.
